Identification of genes for leaf rust resistance in seedlings of wheat cultivars from the Yellow-Huai Basin in China and slow rusting observations in field trials

Wheat leaf rust is a devastating disease worldwide. Identification of resistance genes in seedlings and for slow rusting are important breeding gene deployment to control the disease. A total 108 wheat cultivars from Beijing Shandong province set 36 differentials, mostly near-isogenic lines background Thatcher with known genes, were tested 20 Puccinia triticina pathotypes (FHJS1, FGBQ,PGJQ, SHJT, FHGQ, PHTT1, PHJS, THSM, FHSQ, PHST, PRSQ, FNTQ, PHGM, KHGQ, PHTT2, TGTT, FHJS2, NHHT) at seedling stage greenhouse. The differentials also planted field test their using mixture races at Baoding, Hebei Zhoukou, Henan province, two consecutive years. Ten Lr1, 9, 10, 19, 20, 24, 26, 34, 37 46 identified in 57 commercial cultivars, either singly or combination, molecular markers. Combined, results postulation marker detection showed that one or more 3, 14a, 14b, 36, 39, 34 46, present 57 no was remaining 51 cultivars. Lr26 42 nine contained Lr1. Lr46 10 as indicated by presence closely linked csLV46G22. Seven genotypes identified possibly carrying Lr39.
